The CFCN Old Timers
Friday at nine, over the Prairies, the mountains and the bush
Every account of Canadian radio is written from Toronto and Montreal, and every account is therefore wrong about most of the country. On the Prairies the dominant sound was not network drama but the local station’s own house band, playing the same slot on the same night for decades. CFCN Calgary ran the Old Timers every Friday at nine for over thirty-five years across the West and into the Pacific Northwest. This is what the majority of Canadians outside the two big cities actually turned the set on for.
